N. Scott Momaday received numerous accolades throughout his impressive career starting with the Pulitzer in 1969 for House Made of Dawn. These awards include the Golden Plate Award from the American Academy of Achievement, an award from the National Institute of Arts and Letters, an Academy of American Poets Prize, "Mondello" Italy's highest literary award— Premio Letterario Internationale, the Ken Burns American Heritage Prize presented by the American Prairie Reserve, and the UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2007.
Scholarly Awards and Recognition
He has been awarded twenty-three honorary degrees from American colleges and universities in recognition of his impressive scholarly and creative career.
Momaday is also a founding trustee of the National Museum of the American Indian and sat on the board of First Nations Development Institute and the School of American Research.
